Happy Godzilla Day!
Donny Winter has returned to the site to give you a special reading of his latest poem, written for Godzilla’s 69th birthday. It is told form the perspective of the Earth itself.
Hell and Havoc
By Donny Winter
You lit the match in this gas-filled atmosphere
and I cannot fall back into slumber
with eyelids burned beyond recognition.
You, who claim to own my every grain,
pebble, and molecule.
You lit the match, so, I’ll let this flame rage
longer than I’ve allowed you to pepper
my surface with concrete and plastic.
I’ll watch as you delusional demigods
crack beneath the pressure,
cave with each foot fall of the beast you’ve birthed.
At the end of what you call time,
the hell and havoc you’ve wrought
exacts a heavier toll than
a monstrosity made by monsters.
