G-FEST Announces 2024 Costume Contest + New Rules

Source: Dojo Studios Press Release

On behalf of G-FEST, Dojo Studios has announced their guidelines and policies relating to the 2024 iteration of the costume parade. Since the beginning of the convention itself over thirty years ago, passionate fans enamored attendees with their incredible homemade costumes. That honored tradition will continue, albeit with some new changes, most notably that registration is online only this year, and that it is due the Friday of G-FEST at the latest.

Press Release From Dojo Studios

Happy New Year – From G-FEST and Dojo Studios!

We wanted to personally thank you and your loved ones for attending last year’s Costume Parade. Nothing makes us more grateful than to share our hobby with an ever-growing fandom. Year after year, we have shattered records for the number of entries and attendance to the parade. This year we had an impressive 72 individual walks.

With the continual and growing success of the Costume Parade, the registration process will be digital only. This has several advantages that make us excited for future G-FESTs, which include precise and quick lineups, more accurate announcements, and most importantly freeing up our time as Costume Parade Directors, to engage with you, the costumers.

Our growth as a convention and its learning experiences have also prompted changes to the rules. The new rules have been reformatted for easier referencing and includes a new safety waiver which will be required to enter. Other changes include how many entries an individual can have, guidelines for “mock battles” or “stage fighting”, etc. Please be familiar with these new rules.

As we continue to grow as a fandom and as a Costume Parade, we want to make sure that we keep our grassroots feel and community base while also accommodating all who wish to participate. For us, this means expanding how costumers and cosplayers participate at G-FEST. We are already coming up with our own ideas for costuming panels, but we would love to hear what you are interested in. What do you want to know about? Talk about? Let us know and we’ll see what we can do!

Entries are due the Friday of G-FEST and we cannot accept late admissions due to growing attendance. The new digital entry form and rules can be found here: https://www.g-festcon.com/gfest-contests

Are you bringing a costume this year to G-FEST? Let us know! KU can’t wait to see you there!
