Interview: Tsutomu Kitagawa & Mizuho Yoshida

GODZILLA MEETS GODZILLA in Los Angeles!

Last August, KU’s very own Jacob had the opportunity to sit down with Mizuho Yoshida and Tsutomu Kitagawa, two legendary, larger-than-life suit actors, best known for playing Godzila. Yoshida-San played Godzilla in the much-beloved Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, providing a much bigger, more menacing Godzilla than previously seen. Tsutomu-san was the de-facto MIllennium Godzilla, portraying him from 1999-2004, with the exception of the aforementioned GMK film.

Both of these amazing individuals have a historic resume outside of portraying Godzilla. Yoshida not only played villainous characters such as Desghidorah in Rebirth of Mothra and Zedus in Gamera: The Brave, he also moved into motion capture work, providing the body movements for iconic video game character Solid Snake! Mr. Kitagawa, on the other hand, is a seasoned Sentai actor, having played the stunt Sentai roles in shows such as Gosei Sentai Dairanger.

What happens when you pair these two legends together? Find out in our interview.

Brief apologies for the switch in footage, the camera’s SD card filled up mid-Q&A, but luckily, Adam J. Griffin came to the rescue and filmed the rest on his phone, so we can witness this extraordinary event!
