Godzilla: Minus One Awards Roundup

Godzilla: Minus One has been nothing short of a kaiju-sized success, both amongst devoted Godzilla fans, average moviegoers, and movie critics alike. As of writing this article, we are yet to find out if G -1.0 will take home the big prize, its Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. Takashi Yamazaki, Kiyoko Shibuya, Masaki Takahashi and Tatsuji Nojima are listed as the nominees for this award, having led the painstaking process of creating incredible visual effects for the film. That being said, leading up to the Oscars race is always a delight to watch, as you get regional awards, by publication or by state, that basically solidifies the campaign a film, performer, or behind-the-scenes crew member must go through in order to receive such a nomination. There’s also some historic victories with the Academy Award nomination, with Joshua Encinias of MovieMaker pointing out, “Yamazaki became the first director since Stanley Kubrick (for 2001: A Space Odyssey) to be nominated for the Best Achievement in Visual Effects Academy Award. “, which is another incredible feat.

Here’s a breakdown of all the wins and nominations that Takashi Yamazaki’s kaiju epic has received. It’s quite the list, but they’re all here! First up are nominations that have not received a declared winner yet. After that, it’s all the confirmed nominations and wins that this critical and commercial darling has received. Listed in ABC order for easy reference!

(for Godzilla)

As you can see, there are a bajillion awards for this movie. In my history of being a Godzilla fan, I don’t think I’ve quite seen anything like this. We are living in historic times in this community & fandom! Let’s root for Godzilla: Minus One at the Academy Awards on March 10, but also remember, it’s okay if it doesn’t take home the prize. The fact that a Godzilla film received recognition at the Academy level is mind-blowing and such an incredible feat. I am beyond ecstatic for Yamazaki-san and crew.
