Joining the fanfare of having Ayako Fujitani attend the show, North America’s largest kaiju and giant monster movie convention has revealed that Rie Ota will be attending! Ota-san is best known for portraying Baragon in 2001’s Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, cementing herself as the second woman to portray a kaiju in a suit for a motion picture. Rie Ota, born in 1978 in Tokyo, embarked on a remarkable journey in the world of Japanese live stage entertainment. Fresh out of high school, she ventured into the realm of Sentai hero shows, initially as a part-time gig. Little did she know, this would become the foundation for an extraordinary career.
Immersing herself in the dynamic environment of live stage performances, Ota honed her skills and underwent rigorous training in various action sequences. As a member of the esteemed Technical Actors Club (TAC), with roots tracing back to Toei, she swiftly established herself as a beloved female stunt actor.
Standing at a just of 4’9″, Ota defied conventional expectations, turning what some might perceive as a disadvantage into her greatest asset. Her petite stature proved invaluable, particularly in embodying smaller, low-to-the-ground Kaiju suits like Baragon in “Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack” (GMK) in 2001. This groundbreaking portrayal earned her the distinction of being the FIRST female suit actor in the storied history of Toho Tokusatsu movie series.
Beyond her iconic role in the Kaiju universe, Ota graced numerous live stages with her versatile talents. From portraying Chibi Moon in “Sailor Moon” to embodying characters like GAO White in “Power Rangers Wild Force,” Kabutack in “BeeRobo Kabutack,” and Robocon in “Moero Robocon,” her contributions to the Tokusatsu Metal Hero series were equally memorable and impactful.
