Beginning in 2016, “Tokusatsu DNA” has served as a traveling exhibit showcasing real costumes and props featured in the kaiju films we all know and love. It is a must-see for anybody visiting Japan; the organization is doing tremendous work preserving many of the kaiju suits that are still around to this day. Also available in these exhibits are special edition figures and statuettes, sculpted by renowned artists and modelers. Some of these figures are now available to fans overseas due to Tokusatsu DNA’s partnership with the proxy service Buyee – including the latest one, “Ultraman C-Type”. This is the second figure in their ADK Emotions “Figure Project”.

This figure was sculpted by the legendary Takashi Kinoshita, best known for providing realism to the body structure of Ultraman whenever he sculpts the titular hero. He states, “This time, the focus for Ultraman is on the image in the movie, not on still photographs, so the upper body is slightly tilted forward so that the tip of the beam of light he is holding is a low target a little distance away. This makes him look hunched when viewed from the side, and I think the back is closer to the image of Ultraman. Also, although the C-type has a lot of padding on the upper body and is muscular, sometimes when you look at the abdomen area from the side, you can see Furuya’s slim figure, so I sculpted it to convey that feeling.”

Priced at a tax-included 79,800 yen ($553.12 USD), this one of a kind item is available for pre-order in Japan and overseas until September 27. Customers who purchase this product will receive a special bonus “Ultraman Appearance Cut Pin Badge” exclusive to the Tokusatsu DNA Store. If you are unsure about how to purchase this item internationally, fear not! There will be an easy step-by-step guide upon landing on the product listing page.

Interestingly, the page also includes a special interview with Bin Furuya, best known as the suit actor for the original Ultraman that this figure is based on. The talk between Furuya-san and sculptor Kinoshita-san ranges from talking about getting the right pose down to general episode discussion. Unfortunately, the interview is not subtitled for international viewers. However, in the announcement for this figure, he remarked that it is “more authentic than the real thing.”
