First Look at ‘Primitive War’ Brings Dinosaurs to Vietnam

Special Thanks to Avery Guerra.

This ain’t no walk in the park.

Revealed exclusively by Collider yesterday, dinosaur fans now have their hands on the official poster & first images coming from the upcoming dinosaur thriller, Primitive War.

Eyeing a mid-2025 release, the film is written and directed by Luke Sparke (‘Occupation’, ‘Occupation: Rainfall’, ‘Bring Him To Me’), with cinematography by Wade Muller, who previously worked with Sparke on the aforementioned Occupation: Rainfall. The film, teased to have the grittiness of a serious war film with the pure horror and adrenaline of an R-rated creature feature, sees a platoon of soldiers marching through the harsh jungles of Vietnam to uncover the fate of some missing Green Berets, only to find that they are face-to-face with some prehistoric horrors!

The tale of pure survival and instinct blends action and horror, and interestingly, was based on an epic 2017 novel by Ethan Pettus that featured terrors such as Utahraptor, the flying reptile Quetzalcoatlus, and of course, Tyrannosaurus rex. We’re curious to see if the lineup of teeth and claws changed at all for the film adaptation, but rest assured, the poster all but confirms the tyrant king reptile’s presence in this film.

Regarding the dinosaurs that inhabit the world of Primitive War, Luke Sparke said, “I was captivated by the imagery surrounding Ethan’s book and the story it told. I’ve work hard on capturing that essence but also the grittiness, horror aspects and military edge. My vison is to feel like the characters have walked out of the film Platoon, and into the jaws of the greatest predators the planet has ever known.”, with author Ethan Pettus adding, “I’m thrilled to see Luke’s interpretation of my work. I know his team is giving this project everything they’ve got.”

The film has an international cast of stars ready to face the Mesozoic Era, including Ryan Kwanten (‘True Blood’), Tricia Helfer (‘Battlestar Galactica’, ‘Halo 3: ODST’), Jeremy Piven (‘Entourage’), Nick Wechsler (‘The Boys’), Carlos Sanson Jr. (‘Bump’), Aaron Glanane (‘Snowpiercer’), and Anthony Ingruber (‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’).

Finishing out the cast of dinosaur hunters are Albert Mwangi (‘Bump’), Adolphus Waylee (‘Nautilius), Henry Nixon (‘Triangle’) , Jake Ryan (‘Wolf Creek’), Jeremy Lindsay Taylor (‘Puberty Blues’), Lincoln Lewis (‘Bait’), and Ana Thu Nguyen (‘Mortal Kombat 2’).
