Kaitlyn Dever Joins the Cast of Untitled ‘Godzilla X Kong’ Sequel

Our first major cast member of Grant Sputore’s yet-to-be-titled sequel to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has been revealed. Per Deadline, Kaitlyn Dever will be joining Godzilla & Kong on a new adventure. While the details on her character remain under wraps at this time, insiders told Deadline that “while Kong and Godzilla will still be fronting the film, Legendary is looking to build on its human characters and the first logical choice landed on Dever, whose star has been on the rise for some time.”

Dever is best known for her roles in HBO’s The Last of Us, as well as the Emmy award-winning Hulu series Dopesick, the 2019 hit Booksmart, and 2023’s No One Will Save You. Her new role in the MonsterVerse aims to provide “character-driven storytelling” alongside our familiar kaiju action. Grant Sputore’s new MonsterVerse film is being written by David Callaham, with an aimed release of March 26, 2027.

Our hopes are high for this new era of the MonsterVerse, with the I Am Mother director previously co-writing kaiju comic book Behemoth before the big task of tackling Godzilla. Sputore definitely has some big shoes to fill, as Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire became the highest grossing MonsterVerse film of all time, bringing Legendary & Toho $571.9 million in worldwide box office revenue. Over the past 11 years, the MV as a whole has made a combined $2.5 billion globally, cementing itself as a major Hollywood franchise for years to come.

Stay tuned for more updates on this highly-anticipated new MonsterVerse flick! For a speculative breakdown on Grant Sputore as he takes on the MonsterVerse, check out our article by Elijah Thomas.
