Matthew Modine Cast in Next MonsterVerse Film, Filming Begins in April

The main cast of Grant Sputore’s new MonsterVerse film is filling in! The I Am Mother director’s follow-up to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has recruited beloved actor Matthew Modine to join the ranks of kaiju co-stars, according to Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter. Best known for his role as Private Joker in Stanley Kubrick’s classic war film Full Metal Jacket, his roles have also included Stranger Things and Oppenheimer. Per THR, sources indicate that Modine’s role is that of a high-ranking military General.

Mr. Modine joins Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O’Connell and Delroy Lindo as the new human characters joining Godzilla & Kong in a fight against a “cataclysmic, world-ending threat.” Dave Callaham wrote the most recent draft. Dan Stevens, who portrayed the happy-go-lucky character Trapper in the previous film, will also join the cast as the only confirmed returning cast member from a previous MonsterVerse film thus far.

The Hollywood Reporter also added that filming will commence next month in Australia, which conflicts earlier rumors that it would begin in July.

Stay tuned for more updates on this next MonsterVerse installment on Kaiju United.
