The long-awaited rematch is coming soon!
Earlier this morning, Godzilla.com announced the much-speculated about & next entry in the “Godzilla Vs. Marvel” series of books, Godzilla Vs. Avengers. Following the previous entries’ dedication to different periods of Marvel history, this book will pit the King of the Monsters against the 2000’s iteration of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, better known as the New Avengers! Not only will we see Godzilla face off against the Avengers yet again, we will also see fan-favorite Jet Jaguar thrown into the fray as they battle the legendary and iconic Fin Fang Foom. The story will be written by Written by David F. Walker (Planet of the Apes) with art by Georges Jeanty (Star Wars: Mace Windu).
Marvel’s official statement reads: “The original New Avengers return to face an unstoppable enemy – GODZILLA! In the aftermath of a massive battle between Godzilla, Fin Fang Foom, the Avengers and Jet Jaguar, S.H.I.E.L.D. tries to make sense of what went down – but everyone’s telling a different story! What really happened during that fateful clash? Find out when Earth’s Mightiest Heroes take on Earth’s Mightiest Kaiju!”
Additionally, writer David F. Walker commented on the crossover appeal between his childhood & adult favorites of pop culture. “As a child, I was raised on Godzilla movies, and as an adult, the New Avengers was a beautiful reminder of why I love comics,” Walker shared. “The lineup of iconic characters in the New Avengers was a beautiful mix of quirky personalities and big adventures that kept me coming back every month. Bringing Godzilla and the New Avengers together for an epic showdown has allowed me to work with characters I have loved for a long time, in a way that I hope is as entertaining for fans to read as it was for me to write.”
Artist Georges Jeanty was excited to bring the beloved monster hero of his childhood to life. “There are few things in life that feel better than when you get to recreate your childhood passions as a ‘serious’ adult,” Jeanty shared. “Drawing this one-shot allowed me to package two things I loved in my youth, Godzilla and the Avengers, and put it in a comic book! It has been a joy drawing these pages. I hope everyone who picks up this book will see all the love that went into it.”
Godzilla Vs. Avengers #1 will be available wherever you find comic books beginning June 18, just two short weeks after Justice League Vs. Godzilla Vs. Kong 2 #1 is released. What a time for Godzilla to cross over into other worlds!
