‘Godzilla Vs. Thor’ Arrives This July From Marvel

The showdown for Midgard between the God of Thunder and the King of the Monsters happens this July!

The final entry in the Godzilla Vs Marvel series of crossover comic books, Godzilla Vs. Thor, has been formally announced, and it’s packing some serious heat. The book is written by Jason Aaron, the man who revitalized Thor with his God of Thunder run of comics that included the Gorr Saga and with art by Aaron Kuder, best known for his art on the most recent acclaimed Daredevil run. Godzilla’s battle against Thor follows previous encounters with The Fantastic Four, Hulk, X-Men, and New Avengers.

Interestingly, the version of Godzilla that will attempt to destroy Midgard is the GMK Godzilla, seen in 2001’s Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, known for being ferocious and terrifying. Not only that, but Godzilla has been bestowed the powers of Mangog, with Marvel’s official synopsis reading: “The deadly group of assassins known as THE HAND have bestowed GODZILLA with the power of THE BEAST! KRA-KOOM!!! THOR must defend MIDGARD from GODZILLA — but at what cost?!”

Writer Jason Aaron added to this choice of using GMK Godzilla by stating to Godzilla.com, “There are almost as many toy kaiju in my office as there are Mjolnirs, which is really saying something, so it made sense for me to bring two of my favorite characters together for one titanic clash,” Aaron shared. “Aaron Kuder and I are using the Godzilla from ‘Giant Monsters All-Out Attack’, one of the most brutal and powerful versions of the King of the Monsters, so expect a colossal battle that I think will rival some of the most epic, cosmic throwdowns I’ve ever written with the God of Thunder.”

Godzilla Vs. Thor arrives July 2nd and promises one spectacular showdown. Check out all five variant covers below, including one by the iconic Thor scribe and artist, Walter Simonson.
