‘Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe’ #1 Announced for July 16th Release

Godzilla finally made a grand return to Marvel through the Godzilla vs. Marvel series, beginning with Godzilla vs. Fantastic Four #1, which was released on March 26, 2025. But it does not stop there, as Toho and Marvel will once again team up to deliver more exciting Godzilla x Marvel content in the form of Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe, a 5-issue miniseries where Earth’s Mightiest Heroes (and fiercest villains) face Godzilla’s destructive rampage.

The first issue is described as:

“A previously dormant Godzilla has been angrily awoken and begun carving a path of annihilation as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes band together to try and stop its cataclysmic rampage! But when their combined efforts fail to slow the Bringer of Destruction, Earth’s heroes are forced to go to extraordinary lengths to try and bring Godzilla down – including joining forces with Earth’s most devious villains! But will this be enough to stop Godzilla as it tears straight through the Marvel Universe into the Dark Dimension and other realms? Plus, how is the King of the Monsters connected to the mysterious metal, Vibranium, and what does this mean for Wakanda? In the face of an unstoppable force of nature, the Marvel Universe must come together like never before in this earth-shattering fight for Earth’s survival.”

Acclaimed writer Gerry Duggan and artist Javier Garrón are gearing up for an epic Kaiju-Hero
bash that will leave Godzilla and Marvel fans thrilled. It is indeed a great year for Kaiju, DC, and
Marvel fans, as Summer 2025 will also include the release of Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong 2. DC and Marvel releases duking it out with Godzilla as the centerpiece? Who could ask for more?

“Godzilla was as important to me as Marvel Comics growing up,” Duggan shared to Marvel.com. “My father enjoyed watching baseball on TV, and I would root for rain outs so the NYC stations would run a Godzilla movie. When I discovered that Godzilla had appeared in the Marvel Universe, I obsessively collected every issue. I can’t believe how lucky I am to be contributing to the tradition of Godzilla rampaging in the Marvel Universe.

Undoubtedly, this year has been culturally historic for Godzilla, as the King of the Monsters stomps into major comic crossovers left and right. A huge moment for Godzilla and Marvel is upon kaiju fans, and excitement is at an all-time high for the release of Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe on July 16th !
