Tokusatsu fans, the wait is finally over!
On April 23 at 6 PM EST, fans around the globe got their first look at Ultraman Omega, the new and latest entry in the long-running Ultraman franchise. Broadcasting will officially begin on July 5, 2025, at 9:00 AM (JST) across TV Tokyo Network’s six affiliates, with plans for simultaneous international distribution in multiple languages. This global approach aims to surpass the reach of the previous series, Ultraman Arc.
Let’s break down everything we’ve learned from the major announcements revealed during the premiere.
Story Synopsis: A New Hero Awakens

In a world where neither heroes nor kaiju exist, an alien falls from the sky. He carries a red space boomerang, the Omega Slugger, and bears a name that means “ultimate”. This is Ultraman Omega.
Taking on a human form and the name Sorato, this mysterious Ultra is an amnesiac, encountering Earthlings for the first time and trying to understand their ways. When a massive creature appears, a single word rises from his subconscious: “Kaiju”
As more kaiju emerge, Sorato’s dormant instincts awaken, and with them, a sense of duty. He transforms into Ultraman Omega, and fast-paced, dynamic battles unfold. Humanity, witnessing these creatures and their strange red-lit protector, must also grapple with their existence.
An unlikely friendship forms between Sorato and a young Earthling, and they both become the heart of this ambitious new series, one that dares to ask:
“Why does Ultraman protect the Earth?”
Introducing Sorato Okida, Played by Shori Kondo

Shori Kondo takes on the leading role as Sorato Okida. On social media, he states:
“My childhood dream came true!!
I am happy to be able to become ‘Ultraman,’ a character loved all over the world.
The warrior of red light, carrying the dreams of many, will save the Earth.
I hope you love both Omega and Sorato.”
In a formal comment, he elaborated on the significance of the role:
“I’m Shori Kondo and I play Sorato Okida. First, I’d like to say that I’m thrilled to be able to transform into Ultraman.
As an only child in a single-mother household, when I was little my playmate was an Ultraman toy.
I still remember my mother buying it for me and teaching me the names of each Ultra in the morning.
I wish I could tell my younger self that when he grows up, he gets to be Ultraman!
Starting in July, I will save the Earth as Sorato Okida and Ultraman Omega.
I think we have created a charming character. This is a series that both kids and adults can enjoy. Please tune in!”
Kondo began his acting career after university, debuting with Gekidan Patch, a group active in his hometown of Osaka and the surrounding Kansai region. He gained recognition through his physical presence and expressive performances, starring in numerous stage productions and television dramas.
Returning: Director Masayoshi Takesue

Veteran director Masayoshi Takesue will lead the series. Returning after directing other Ultraman shows like Ultraman R/B, Ultraman Decker, and Ultraman Trigger: Episode Z.
Having studied film at Nikkatsu Visual Arts Academy alongside fellow director Kiyotaka Taguchi, Takesue’s first brush with the Ultra universe came as an assistant director on Ultraman Cosmos in 2002.
“I am very happy and enthusiastic to work on my third series as a lead director.
I have been involved in the Ultraman series for over 20 years and have put the greatest themes into my work.
This is a story about the Ultra himself.
Until now, the series I have acted as lead director for were classic coming-of-age stories focused on young Earthlings.
With Ultraman Omega, my aim is to tell the story of ‘when they awaken,’ where Ultraman himself tries to find the answers to questions like ‘why do I protect Earth?’ and ‘why do I fight alongside Earthlings?’
I think children and adults alike will enjoy this classic story with likeable characters and impressive kaiju.
Please look forward to seeing the new Ultra in action!”
