Exclusive: Epic Indie Short Film ‘Volcanodon’ to Make North American Premiere at 2025 G-FEST Film Festival

Special thanks to Avery Guerra, Jeff Horne, and G-FEST.

We’ve gone another scoop on the vast lineup of over twenty films from Asian countries making landfall this July at the 2025 G-FEST Film Festival! The mysterious and intriguing Taiwanese short film, Volcanodon, will be making its North American Premiere at the film fest! Kaiju United has been watching the production of this film for quite some time, so we’re very excited to finally see the film in its finished format. Produced by Creator Union of Tokusatsu and directed by Lian-Zhe La, the film sees a gigantic volcanic Kaiju re-appear in a city after many years, with the film’s ominous synopsis reading:

“Is it an extinct volcano, or an active one? Memories of the past and omens of the future—Dukkuronshu and Daikoku, disappearance and rebirth. Memories and words echoing from the faraway mountain echo in the girl’s head…”

Previously, the team created another short film revolving around the monster called Attack of Volcanodon, seeing a reporter investigate legends of the beast that permeate to this day. This previous short film won the 14th Japan National Independent Monster Film Competition, taking home the coveted Kiyotaka Taugchi Award.

Check out the trailer below, and stay tuned for more information on the film, including when it is screening at G-FEST, and more info on its release after the film festival!
