Exclusive: Cult Favorite ‘Crabs!’ to Screen at 2025 G-FEST Film Festival as “The Midnight Movie”

Special thanks to Avery Guerra, Jeff Horne, and G-FEST

One of the best parts of the G-FEST Film Festival’s lineup of incredible independent and studio creature features is the coveted “Midnight Movie,” which typically plays Saturday night at 12AM on the dot. Last year, Jose Prendes’ 2024 film Monster Mash screened, and 2023’s festival saw The Asylum’s 25th anniversary spectacle 2025 Armageddon play. To be a true midnight movie, you must have that classic, fun, creature feature appeal. After all, what else are you going to be watching that late at night?

This year, we’re happy to exclusively reveal that creature feature cult favorite Crabs! will be playing at 12am at the G-FEST Film Festival! Several of us on KU staff are very familiar with the film, which totes fun gore, giant crab monsters, and is a film that was dubbed by distributor Raven Banner as “Zombeavers meets Godzilla.”

In the film, “Mutated by nuclear runoff, a horde of murderous horseshoe crabs descend on a sleepy California town causing Prom Night terror. As the deadly crustaceans claw their way through the disbelieving population, it’s up to a ramshackle band of students and police to address the increasingly ginormous crab menace in a love letter to such practical effects horrors as Gremlins and nostalgic Roger Corman classics.”

Crabs! is written and directed by Pierce Berolzheimer, and stars Dylan Riley Snyder, Jessica Morris, Robert Craighead, and Bryce Durfee. Additionally, Pierce Berolzheimer, Evan Wolf Buxbaum, Noah Lang, Andrew Hunt, Michael Paszt, James Fler, and Annick Mahnert are listed as producers.

The film was a hit on the film fest scene, taking home the Audience Award for Best Feature Film, as well as several other accolades, including: Best Screenplay at Nevermore Film Festival, Best Director and Best Special Effects at HorrorHound Film Festival, Best Comedy Film at Another Hole in the Head, Best Horror Feature at Phoenix Film Festival, Best Feature Film at Creature Feature Weekend, the Jury Prize at Rojo Sangre Film Festival, and the Fandor Independent Vision Award at the Mendocino Film Festival.
