G-FEST is only a month away, and yet, there are still some major announcements to be had for their 2025 iteration of the beloved film fest that typically runs all weekend at all hours of the day. A few days ago, we exclusively revealed that Spanish documentary Ishiro Honda: Memoirs of a Film Director, would be making its North American Premiere at the festival. Now, we can add two more short films to that lineup, and ironically, they share the same title! We’ve got a two-for-one!
Kaiju Kid, written and directed by filmmaker Rusteen Honardoost, is an American stop-motion short film about a young kaiju rampaging through the city. It appears Godzilla-like, but is noticeably red in coloration, and perhaps has a more youthful attitude. It has played at various other film festivals to great praise, such as the Cleveland International Film Festival, The Los Angeles Animation Festival, and the Credo 23 Film Festival.
Additionally, it has been confirmed that Mr. Honardoost will be in attendance for the screening and at the convention itself all weekend, marking the second director to appear for one of their films at the festival this year after it was announced that The Jurassic Games: Extinction Director Ryan Bellgardt would be in attendance.

The second film, also called Kaiju Kid, is a French short film from ARTFX, and will be the film to close out this year’s festivities. The film’s synopsis reads, “In 1974, Hiroshi, a mediocre actor who lives in Tokyo, is given the role of Krokodor, a Kaiju wreaking destruction. After several hours of hellish shooting, he is fired. He learns that an audition will be held to find his replacement. He vows to get his role back and sets off to train, to be up to the challenge of the casting that awaits him. But not everything goes according to plan…”

The short film’s crew includes Sacha Benhamou, Thibault Durand, Zhu Guangda, Emmanuel Kingunza, Clement Lepinay, Victor Mezerai, Romain Pelissier, Alexandre Pont, and Theo Soler.
