The long-awaited sequel to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire finally gets some news!
The blockbuster recently wrapped up filming in Moab, Utah! Per the Salt Lake Tribune, the producers chose Moab for its “beautiful landscapes [and] the look of the town.” In fact the production made a very rare decision to leave all signs in downtown Moab exactly as they are. Bega Metzner, the Moab to Monument Valley Film Commissioner reflected on this, stating, “They’re not changing the signage on Main Street. That’s very rare for a film to come into the town and not have it be another place. So if one of the businesses is going to be seen, then it will be seen for what it’s called.” Because of this, it’s safe to assume the film will actually take place in Moab, rather than a fictitious town.
The Salt Lake Tribune also provided additional interesting information like Godzilla x Kong: Supernova being one of the biggest productions to have ever been filmed in Moab. Additionally, it’s the only U.S city to be featured in the movie, with a majority of the other filming taking place in Australia. It’s a truly exciting time for Utahns, who finally get some recognition in the Kaiju genre!
We can only speculate what is going down in Moab, but surely, things are shaping up to be huge! Knowing that GxK wrapped filming, hopefully it means post-production is about to hit it big when the titans themselves are fully realized. Hopefully this is a sign for more news to come soon!
Godzilla and Kong will stomp back into theaters March 26th, 2027 the film is directed by Grant Sputore (I Am Mother) and written by David Callaham (Across the Spider-Verse). Rounding out the cast is Kaitlyn Dever, Delroy Lindo, Sam Neill, and Jack O’Connell.
