A new documentary about legendary kaiju suit maker Keizo Murase has been announced in Japan. Titled The Monsters and the Old Man, the documentary aims to explore the full career of Keizo Murase from his beginnings at Toho during the Showa era to the production of his first (and last) feature film, Brush of the God. The documentary will be released theatrically in Japan on October 13th, but as of right now there is no word on a release internationally.
Actor Tetsuyuki Wakabayashi (Ryuji, Hagure Keiji Junjoha) has been brought on board as narrator for the documentary, with Kenichiro Masuoka (Pelican Overdrive) providing two theme songs for the film – “Dance with K” and “More Just a Little More.” Shinro Nakano leads the charge on the production, serving as director, cinematographer, and editor. Tsuyoshi Ogawa and Yasumasa Naga will co-produce the documentary, and longtime Murase collaborator Daisuke Sato (Brush of the God) is credited as an advisor to the film.
The Monsters and the Old Man is a co-production between Tweny Co., Ltd., Fleece Co., Ltd., Tokusatsu DNA, and Kamino Fude (Brush of the God) Production Committee. It will be produced and distributed by the Japan wing of United Entertainment.
