‘Fukuiraptor’ Update: 3 More Stars Join Cast [Exclusive]

Special Thanks to Avery Guerra.

We’ve got a brand new update on the upcoming indie dinosaur flick from Japan! After the initial announcement from 3Y Film, we’re proud to reveal that three more toku veterans have been cast Fukuiraptor, which has successfully been crowdfunded (over 277%) and will begin production very soon.

For those unaware, Fukuiraptor is a planned independent tokusatsu film about the real prehistoric creature of the same name. In the film, “During his summer vacation, Yota, a boy living in a small town in Fukui Prefecture, sees something unbelievable deep in the mountains: a living, moving, real dinosaur, the Fukuiraptor. Yota, a dinosaur lover, teams up with his family to launch a “Fukuiraptor capture mission.””

The casting for the film continues, with three more stars joining the lineup:

Shin’ya Ôwada is best known for her appearance as SDF Lt. Gen. Katsumasa Mikumo in 2001’s Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack. Some of her other roles also include the 1992 Heisei film Godzilla vs. Mothra, released internationally as Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth, as well as Nobuhiko Ôbayashi’s 2004 thriller Riyû and 1976’s Manhunt. She is also credited as a writer for Kyôryû wo horô! (2013).

Norimasa Fuke is a veteran of Toei’s Kamen Rider and Super Sentai franchises, portraying Masakuni Mido in 21 episodes of Kamen Rider Build (2017-2018), as well as making a memorable appearance in an episode of Samurai Sentai Shinkenger. On the cinema end, his most notable role is a performance in the Japan Academy Prize-winning film A Samurai in Time.

Ryô Shinoda’s tenure in tokusatsu includes a role as Ishida in Rider Time: Kamen Rider Ryuki (2002-2003), and he has also appeared in films such as Werewolf Game: Prison Break (2016), Vampire Clay (2017) and Strangers (2024).

All three actors will star alongside Honami Sugawara, Megumi Kobayashi (Rebirth of Mothra), and Tsuda Kanj (Shin Godzilla). The film is directed by Hiroto Yokokawa (Hoshi 35) and Kazuma Yoneyama (Nezura 1964), with Daisuke Sato (Howl From Beyond the Fog) serving as Assistant Director, Special Effects Director, and Director of Photography. According to the film’s Consulting Producer and Publicist, there are possible plans to expand the crowdfunding campaign for international tokusatsu fans, and there are pending announcements for a few notable Godzilla movie alumni that will be joining the cast!
