They come from below…
On the heels of the highly-anticipated Primitive War making its debut on digital home video in the United States, another film by director Luke Sparke is set to hit digital platforms in the United States for the first time on October 3rd. Titled Scurry, the horror flick sees “a pair of strangers trapped underneath the rubble of a crumbling city during an apocalypse. Badly injured and with limited resources, they must navigate a treacherous, narrowing tunnel in hopes of finding an exit before they bleed out.”
After being shot in Queensland, Australia at the Sparke Films studio on the Gold Coast, the giant spider flick made its World Premiere at the 2024 Sydney Film Festival. The film received great praise and plenty of scares, culminating in the film taking home the Audience Award that year. This new digital VOD release will also coincide with select theatrical screenings to be confirmed at a later time.
Director Luke Sparke shared enthusiasm for the project ahead of its release, stating: “At its heart, Scurry is about survival in an environment that turns against you. The idea of being trapped, isolated, and pursued by something terrifying taps into primal fears we all share. I wanted to craft a story that is as much about the characters’ emotional journeys as it is about the sheer pulse-pounding horror of their situation. Every shadow, every creak, every breathless moment is designed to pull the audience deeper into the chaos.”

Scurry was also shot in one continuous take to add suspense, thrills, and a sense of realism, with Luke Sparke adding, “Visually, I drew inspiration from classic creature features, but I also wanted to push the limits of modern filmmaking techniques to create a world that feels real, raw, and utterly unpredictable. Practical effects, intense cinematography, and a relentless soundscape all combine to make SCURRY feel like a ride you can’t escape from.”
The film’s two stars, Jamie Costa and Emalia, commented on the challenges of filming a movie in one continuous take. “You’re constantly just shifting gears,” Jamie says, reflecting on the pace of the production. With both actors on set every day, staying in character from start to finish, there was no room for error. “The challenge of staying in that headspace was so intense, but that’s what made it so exciting,” Emalia adds. “It was like we were all in this together, really pushing the limits of what we could do.”

Luke Sparke’s Scurry will debut on Digital HD platforms on October 3rd, including AppleTV, Amazon Prime Video, and Fandango at Home (formerly known as Vudu). The film stars Jamie Costa (Kenobi, Bring Him To Me) and Emalia (Paper Dolls). Scurry was written by Tom Evans (Bring Him To Me), with Luke Sparke (Primitive War) serving as Director, Executive Producer, and Production Designer. Alex Becconsall is also credited as Visual Effects Supervisor alongside Luke Sparke.
