Earlier this year, we announced the first teaser for Abu: The Giant Monster (ABU Si RAKSASA), Malaysia’s very first kaiju film. Thanks to publicist Avery Guerra’s efforts, it has now reached international audiences, with a brand new trailer debuting exclusively on comingsoon.net with fully translated subtitles, giving monster fans a glimpse into this new creature feature.
Contrary to other famous movie monsters, this creature seems more benevolent, with the film’s synopsis stating, “A monster appears in a dam near the city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The monster, Abu, is Zaara’s “pet.” A pet that mutated due to chemical pollution. Zaara and Sofian join forces to save Abu from being eliminated by Lt. Fayyad Noah, who is assigned by the National Security Council to kill the monster. Will Abu be saved?”
Development on Abu: The Giant Monster began in 2022, with principal photography taking place between September and October 2023. The story for the film was created by Fakhry Zaen, who co-wrote the film alongside Lakun Layar, and the film’s director Ramdan Che Hassan (Jengka, Antaramasa). The cast of the film includes Sophia Albarakbah, Jaa Suzuran, Afieq Shazwan, and Zalif Sidek.
Per comingsoon.net, Abu: The Giant Monster was released in theaters in Malaysia this past September. It is eyeing international audiences at this time.
