Trailer and Poster Released for New Japanese All-Out Kaiju Brawl Movie

World-renowned cult movie filmmaker Minoru Kawasaki (The Calamari Wrestler, Monster X Strikes Back: Attack the G8 Summit, and Kaiju Mono) has released the first full look at his largest project yet! Coming to theaters in Japan on January 23rd, 2026, is “Kaiju Heaven” (Kaiju Tengoku)『怪獣天国』. In preparation for an upcoming event where Director Kawasaki will be present to talk about the movie, we’ve received our FIRST LOOK at the director’s latest work.

The film is inspired by comments from legendary Special Effects Director Eiji Tsuburaya during a 1966 TV special, “The Father of Ultra Q” 『ウルトラQのおやじ』, suggesting that perhaps the next idea to follow up on was “to create a monster heaven.” Later on, Director Kawasaki’s mentor Akio Jissoji (Ultraman, Doomed Megalopolis: The Last Megalopolis, and Ultra Q: The Movie – Legend of the Stars) pitched an Ultraseven movie in the 1970s that was described as “15 Aliens + 35 Monsters” which would have been in the same tone as “Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy – The Movie” (2009) 『大怪獣バトル ウルトラ銀河伝説 The Movie』.

When talking about the project, Minoru Kawasaki reflected on the kaiju genre,

As can be seen from the huge success of “Godzilla Minus One”『ゴジラ-1.0』and its Academy Award win, [kaiju] movies are a symbol of Japan’s unique visual culture and are known internationally. When we think of [kaiju], we generally imagine them as gigantic, terrifying creatures that destroy cities, but there was another potential for [kaiju] in Japan. Tsuburaya Productions’ “Kaiju Booska”(1966)『快獣ブースカ』, a comedy about a life-sized monster that infiltrates a boy’s daily life and causes chaos. It followed the same pattern as “Obake no Q-Taro”『オバケのQ太郎』 (also known simply as Q-Taro), the origin of the nationally popular Doraemon. Booska, the friendly monster and friend of children, gained popularity in a different way from “Ultraman”『ウルトラマン』. So, a film based on the golden pattern was made in which a life-sized monster like Booska infiltrates the daily lives of ordinary people and causes all sorts of strange trouble.

The film was made as a homage to the Toho Champion Matsuri-style films such as “All Monsters Attack” (1969)『ゴジラ・ミニラ・ガバラ オール怪獣大進撃』, “Daigoro vs. Goliath” (1972)『怪獣大奮戦 ダイゴロウ対ゴリアス』, and “Terror Mechagodzilla” (1975)『メカゴジラの逆襲』. Boasting 22 monsters, the film will feature one of the largest kaiju rumbles in history. During the development of the film, a slew of new suits were created, while also repurposing as many of Kawasaki’s previous works as possible.

The film’s kaiju roster includes:

  • Mono from “Kaiju Mono” (2016)『大怪獣モノ』
  • Kanilla, Takolla, and Ikalla from “Monster Seafood Wars” (2020)『三大怪獣グルメ』
  • Tartan Robo King from “Planet Prince 2021” (2021)『遊星王子2021』
  • Shachihokon and Zamechi from “Super Legend God Hikoza” (2022)『超伝合体ゴッドヒコザ』
  • Alien Mukrita from “Den Ace Chaos” (2023)『電エースカオス』
  • Grey Alien, Fudegaki Alien, and Red Hermit Crab Alien from “Charge! UFO Next Door” (2024)『突撃!隣のUFO』
  • Condroid from “Cyborg Isshin Tasuke” (2025)『サイボーグ一心太助』
  • Shark from “Game of Shark” (2025)『松島トモ子サメ遊戯』

Also included is film adaptations of various soft vinyls from Japan:

  • Mamitora by Marmit
  • Cthulhuoid by GYAROMI
  • Toy King from the Japanese toy store of the same name
  • Terrain Ignite from Medicom Toy

The evil kaiju draws influences from both Spanish creatures and Daimon in “Yokai Monsters: Spook Warfare” (1968)『妖怪大戦争』. Highlighted throughout the trailer, we get to see the design from GYAROMI for Bigmon.

The film’s cast includes Tomoya Warabino (Ultraman Blazar), Nene Shida (Kamen Rider Geats), Hiroto Kuroiwa, and Minami Shinsuke. The film is co-written by Hori Nobuyuki (Charge! The UFO Next Door) and Minoru Kawasaki, who also serves as Producer and Director. The film is co-produced by BBB Co., Ltd and Rivertop Co., Ltd and distributed by Extreme Films.

The synopsis for “Kaiju Heaven” reads:

Hiroyuki Asatani (played by Tomoya Warabino) is a single father who runs a used record store in Asakusa. His son, Kenta (played by Hiroto Kuroiwa), is in the fourth grade and believes that monsters really exist. However, he is shocked when he sees a wrestler emerge from a monster costume in the dressing room of a monster wrestling match. On his way home, disappointed, Kenta meets a real monster named Mamitora and befriends him. Mamitora becomes a resident at the Asatani family house and helps out at their store. One day, Inaba, a regular customer and music fanatic, plays a record he stole from the store, causing a strange incident, and Inaba is possessed by the monster Bigmon. Meanwhile, in Asakusa, monster cosplayers are transforming into monsters one after another and going on a rampage. Bigmon is reviving sleeping monsters from around the world and is attempting to destroy the world with an all-out attack. Mamitla grows gigantic and, together with another monster, Terrain Ignite, attempts to defeat the monster army. Will they be able to defeat Bigmon and his army? Or will the world be destroyed?

The film is scheduled to be released nationwide at Human Trust Cinema Shibuya, Ikebukuro Cinema Rosa, and other theaters. Currently, there are no plans for an international release.
