Kaiju United is thrilled to announce the latest addition to our staff ranks. After careful consideration and examination, our long-term goal of finding an individual to join Editor-in-Chief Jacob Lyngle and Managing Editor Hayley Doland to drive our site content going forward has been completed. We are pleased to reveal that longtime contributor Joseph Acosta will be joining the Kaiju United leadership team as our official Ultraman & Tokusatsu Editor. This new role will allow us to have a resident expert on all things from famous tokusatsu television franchises such as Ultraman, Super Sentai, and Kamen Rider, giving KU insight and perspective on how to deliver the best, most-cutting edge coverage on these historic franchises for our passionate and ever-growing community of kaiju enthusiasts.
Ultraman in particular is a massive pillar of everything that is covered and reported on at KU, and with the franchise entering a massive 60th Anniversary year, KU Leadership felt it was best to bring on Joseph to help make this monumental anniversary one to remember, while also making KU the top destination for all things related to Ultraman, as we feel as an organization that more could be done on our end as press to promote Ultraman’s activities in the West. Joseph will personally oversee every single Ultraman piece and submission, ensuring factual accuracy, honest but fair reviewing, and insightful and engaging topical discussion.
After demonstrating his expertise and willingness to cover nearly everything Ultraman that occurred last fall in the New York area and being directly featured on both the English and Japanese website fronts for Tsuburaya Productions, we felt this choice was a clear-cut decision. Joseph will also advise KU on essential Ultraman topics to cover, including our upcoming articles on Akio Jissoji, different home video releases from Alliance Home Entertainment, and potential future live events such as last year’s Ultraman LIVE or the exciting stage show at the 2024 New York Comic Con.
Joseph began his journey with Kaiju United as a Contributing Writer in 2023, with his debut piece being Seeing Space Monster Wangmagwi in 35mm! In that article, Joseph journeyed to the Film at Lincoln Center to see a legendary and rarely seen (at the time) Korean kaiju film. Since then, Joseph has showcased his versatile skillset in various types of site pieces ranging from articles about home video releases, news drops on the latest, and collaborating with PR firms and brands. Joseph’s interview portfolio includes discussions with top-tier talent such as actor Christopher Sean (Ultraman: Rising), writer Van Jensen (Godzilla: Heist), Starlight Runner CEO Jeff Gomez & Editorial Coordinator Evangelia Gomez, and comics creator Tom Scioli (Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre).
Jacob Lyngle, Editor-in-Chief of Kaiju United, commented on this new staff update:
“Joseph has been an essential force in our event coverage in the New York kaiju scene since our small debut year, and has been a loyal, positive, and guiding force ever since. He has a strong working knowledge of home media releases, 35mm theatrical screenings, and a long-standing passion for everything Ultraman.
Joseph has shown that he is more than capable of personally collaborating with major companies such as Tsuburaya Productions and Bandai Namco Entertainment, and has directly worked with IDW Publishing to arrange multiple interviews. I am extremely excited to have him directly work with KU Leadership on shaping the future of our site and social media as we enter our third anniversary in March, marking a new chapter in the ever-expanding and developing story of Kaiju United.”
Joseph Acosta also remarked upon his new role, stating, “What started off as a single review piece of a film quickly expanded into a wider range of articles that would highlight my appreciation of the Tokusatsu genre…and physical media! I’ve been able to push myself outside of my comfort zone and learn more about a genre that I really appreciate, along with connecting with other fans who share my interest and the people who create it, thanks to KU! Thank you very much for accepting me as a full-time member! I can’t wait to see what the future holds!”
Joseph’s new leadership role begins today, a day after the 7th Anniversary of his popular social media page, tokusatsubts. Stay tuned for more updates and exciting, fresh, and new coverage on all things Ultraman and Tokusatsu at Kaiju United.
