There is massive news in the realm of Neon Genesis Evangelion, one of the biggest anime and IPs on the planet, as a brand new Evangelion anime series has been announced. The iconic psychological mecha-anime has a new series in the works, announced during the final program of the EVANGELION 30+ 30th Anniversary of Evangelion festival held at Yokohama Arena from February 21 to 23 2026.
Per the official Evangelion X account (after translation), “To commemorate the 30th anniversary of “Eva,” we announced the first report regarding the production of a completely new series in the “Evangelion” franchise at the Final Program on February 23 (Mon. Holiday), the final day of the festival “EVANGELION:30+; 30th ANNIVERSARY OF EVANGELION.” The series composition and script will be written by Yoko Taro (director of the popular Nier video game series). Music will be by Keiichi Okabe (who has composed music for Tekken and Nier), and the series will be produced by Studio Khara and CloverWorks. Finally, the new series will be directed by, fittingly, Hideaki Anno’s protégé Kazuya Tsurumaki (director of the Rebuild films and Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX), and Toru Yatabe (assistant director on Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time)
Certainly, this is a very interesting group of creative forces involved in what promises to be a grand and ambitious project. Evangelion never seems to truly go away, and this announcement is well fitting for its 30th anniversary. For now, there are no further details, but fans will be be waiting with anticipation for what is to come about this new anime series.
