Get ready to engage! The developers behind upcoming indie mecha game Dream Team Supreme have announced a new comic series. On April 6th during New Zealand’s largest fan convention Armageddon Expo, the team behind the game unveiled the comic and the announcement that new episodes would debut exclusively on Discord. The book was done in collaboration with artist, creator, and local Wellington legend Matthew J Willis, best known as the creator of the 1000-episode comic Swords, which was referred to as “the most wholesome thing on the internet” by BBC News. His other works include the comic Stars and games such as Swords: Cut The Deck and Clusterduck.
For those uninitiated, Dream Team Supreme is a 2D roguelike deckbuilder where you pilot the giant robot Super Supreme against a horde of monsters of the week. Whether solo or online coop, you discover the cartridges that command Super Supreme and make strategic decisions that mod your robot. You’ll need serious brain power in that million tons of awesome to traverse the procedurally-generated and battered world, overcome monsters, and stop the source of the invasion!
Big Adventure Developer Oliver Chrun commented on the new series with excitement, stating, “When you’re focused on saving the world, you don’t always get the time to show your bright side. The comic series really shine a light on what makes Dream Team Supreme a fun crew of scientists by zooming into tiny, quirky moments that happen when everyone is thinking about the big situation at hand. We can’t wait for readers to enjoy the adventures and for players to enjoy how we tie the comic into the game.”
Kaiju and mecha fans looking to add a unique cooperative deckbuilder to their game night lineup can wishlist Dream Team Supreme on Steam. Check out a preview of the comic below, and be sure to stay tuned for more updates on Kaiju United.
About Dream Team Supreme
Dream Team Supreme is a 2D roguelike deckbuilder where scientists co-pilot a giant robot to push back an invading horde of larger than life monsters. Whether solo or 2P online co-op, players discover hundreds of cartridges that command the giant robot, Super Supreme. Players must strategize their way through a complex set of rules and puzzles to save the day. With every victory, players take one giant step closer to finding the source of the invasion and stopping the evil threat.
Fans of roguelike deckbuilders will find that the mechanical twists give Dream Team Supreme its very own delicious puzzles to solve. Replacing the action point economy with a sequence provides a problem and opportunity space every turn. Slotting in cartridges feels like programming the giant robot. Single and dual-sided cartridges make for different shaped puzzle pieces to solve the sequence with. Drawing cartridges from 2 different decks provides ample synergies, while mods bridge the gaps with fantastic power. Momentum converts defense into offense and eliminates lost efforts, every action contributes to growing the giant robot’s power level. Will your busted builds be strong enough to stop all the monsters? With its vibrant and bright colors, its high stakes and low pressure tone, piloting Super Supreme feels like taking a favorite toy outside for an adventure in the sun. The memorable monsters remind players of their favorite Saturday morning cartoons.
