‘Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong 2’ #7 Final Issue Review

And here we are! After 7 issues and many long waits, Godzilla’s latest major DC crossover has ended. It’s been a long and exciting journey with this series, and now things have finally wrapped up… or have they? This finale may not be perfect, but it is filled with plenty of fun action and epic moments!

Ironically, the comic starts with the reveal to Harley, Batman, and the audience that the Joker of the Monsterverse is actually quite harmless as a street clown. Things get dicey quickly as Batman enlists Mothra’s help for the big fight, Scar King and Shimo make their move, and everyone and their friend with them takes on a menacing Ghidorah. One last hurrah to save the world from an onslaught of giants!

This issue does some good, but there are some things that perhaps could have been improved. Some plotlines from earlier in the series did not really fully bloom, and the major players were more titan-focused than character focused. But what this issue definitely gets right is the titan combat and use of titans. It’s entertaining to read and feels like it would translate really well to a movie screen (MAKE. IT. HAPPEN.).

Really, this was a fun series to read through over these past months, especially in the context of the fact that Godzilla is crossing over with so many other IPs. It’s very interesting, and I would argue important, to analyze how each different publisher uses the character in each respective universe. Nonetheless, the team of Christian Duce, Brian Buccalleto, and Luis Guerrero, did an awesome job of completing their task. Because really, the task was simple: make an entertaining bout between the Monsterverse and the DC heroes and villains that looks good. Christian Duce and Luis Guerrero’s work throughout the series should be applauded. They did an excellent job of portraying Godzilla in a gritty art style.

Considering this series itself was a sequel, it remains to be seen if this universe will continue to be expanded with more stories and shenanigans. Moreover, what is particularly something to watch out for is how DC will next play with Godzilla and the Monsterverse. Will they cross G over with individual characters and situations? Time will only tell!

Overall Score: 7/10
Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong II #7 ties a satisfying enough ribbon on a long but exciting saga. The battles and art alone make the series worth reading, and there is plenty of intrigue with what could come next for DC and Godzilla.
