Seven Seas Entertainment has officially announced the English license acquisition of Kazuo Umezu’s Ultraman: The Classic Manga Collection. As part of Ultraman’s 60th anniversary celebration, his first manga appearance will finally be available in English for the first time in over 60 years.
Unlike the TV show, Umezu’s adaptation carries a distinct horror-inspired story. At the time the manga was created, Ultraman had not yet premiered, and Umezu’s work was solely from source materials provided by Tsuburaya Productions. As a result, some character designs and storylines differ noticeably from its TV counterpart. According to the official M78 website–
“It became a series with a strong sense of macabre, making a powerful impact on young readers at the time who were not accustomed to horror stories”.
This release marks another exciting addition to Seven Seas Entertainment’s growing tokusatsu manga lineup, joining Shotaro Ishinomori’s Kamen Rider and Himitsu Sentai Gorenger. Now, another tokusatsu icon joins the catalog!

Ultraman: The Classic Manga Collection is scheduled for release in July 2027 with a retail price of $42.99. We’re incredibly excited to finally experience this piece of Ultraman history at home! Stay tuned to Seven Seas Entertainment and Kaiju United for more updates!
