Hello, and welcome to our pre-launch announcement and call for contributors! Exploding onto the internet in March, Kaiju United are sounding the siren early, and proudly tooting the ocarina to let you all know the gates have been unsealed, and we are officially announcing our coming arrival with a call for contributors.
If you have a love for gigantic, flying, atomic breathed monsters and/or colorfully dressed somersaulting super heroes in shiny helmets, as well as a love for sharing these pleasures with others through writing, drawing/painting, podcasting, or even playing music…whatever medium you practice…we enthusiastically encourage you to reach out and unite with us!
Be it the films, the television shows, the manga, the collectable figures and toys, or all of the above, and whether you are a seasoned pro or knowlegable fan, our channel is now open wide, and hailing all frequencies.
Content wise, the Kaiju United site has almost no limits. From the serious to the humorous, from the authorative to the enthusiastic, this site was created to embrace the positive and respectful end of kaiju/tokusatsu fandom, and give the diverse myriad of voices out there a place to call their own.
Initially starting on Facebook as a discussion group, built to break down the walls of exclusionary elitism, negative-leaning fandom, and overall prejudice in all it’s pejorative forms, the initial mission statement of Kaiju United was quickly achieved. As like minded members amassed, gathering together to network and plain old have a good time discussing their collective love of the fantastical universe(s) of kaiju and tokusatsu, it soon became apparent Kaiju United was a special creature, filling a need for a non-toxic environment, and creating a space that hinged on joy and positivity, where everyone was warmly accepted, and genuinely appreciated.
Well, the time has come to expand that space, and create something even more large, with more room to lovingly showcase not only the content and characters that make up the kaiju and tokusatsu genres, but the creativity that has been bubbling within the Kaiju United community itself. Writers, artists, musicians, kowlegable fans, and ardent supporters with wide ranging tastes make up the Kaiju United family. Now? We invite you to become part of that family. And? If you may have any worries about being confined to the kaiju/tokusatsu “box”, let’s alleviate them right here, right now.
Kaiju United is also all about adjacent value. Upcoming pieces include a look into the non-kaiju related filmography of the genres legendary leading man, Akira Takarada, the social dramas from the early work of it’s most prolific director, Ishiro Honda, and heck, even a buyers’ guide to our favorite foreign snacks to eat while watching the movies we love. There will be pieces going humorously into the snafu-ridden military tactics of “puny hu-mans” against our beloved behemothian beasts, or exploring the intensely serious relationship between the work of Japanese WW2 photographers such as Yoshito Matsushige, and the look cinematographer Masao Tamai brought to 1954 megaclassic Gojira. There will be pieces on soundtrack composer extraordinaire Akira Ifukube, alongside pieces on the music and careers of pop singers who have appeared in the films, such as Mothra’s The Peanuts, and Godzilla Vs. Hedorah’s Keiko Mari.
Yeah…pieces pieces pieces, there’s going to be a lot of pieces!
So, you have a specialized knowledge in something to do with our base content, and want to write about it? Perfect! Or, you have a general interest in something more broad, but with connective tissue to the kaiju/tokusatsu genres? That’s also perfect! If it is connected to a desire to scribble these things out in text, and made available for others to peak into your brain and enjoy your thoughts? Even better.
The contact form is below, and incredibly simple to fill out.
So please, feel welcome to submit your article, essay, review, or even well organized “best of”-style lists, and THROW DOWN WITH US AT KAIJU UNITED.
Editors Jacob Lyngle (longtime uber fan, budding film maker, and the crazy man who started all this in the first place), and Sean Scott Eusantos (a longtime writer with credits at outlets such as Fangoria magazine, Movie Maker, and respected film websites such as Screen Anarchy, and Dread Central) look forward to your pitches, and submissions.
And know this – ALL PITCHES WILL BE CONSIDERED, ALL SUBMISSIONS WILL BE READ IN FULL.
Also, please keep in mind, sincerely, if something is not carried on the site at first, it’s not a rejection so much as a beginning. Jacob and Sean are willing, and happy to work with those who have a genuine interest in having their work be part of Kaiju United, even if it takes a couple shots from the Maser canon to hit the target.
Thanks, and see you, or read you…in March!
