CinemaCon 2026: All Monster Releases to Keep Your Eyes On

CinemaCon has come and gone by the time this article is released, but the Kaiju United team wanted to take some time to recap some of the major announcements, showcases, and trailers that debuted at the industry show. While CinemaCon is often relegated to press, theatre owners, and film studios, the news that breaks is still massive, with many studios utilizing the convention to show the world the very first look at their upcoming films. This CinemaCon in particular was extremely exciting for the kaiju community, given the advance notice of Godzilla Minus Zero getting its first teaser trailer. Minus Zero was not the only creature showcase, however, and we’ve got the full rundown on notable titles that our readers should keep their eyes on.

Godzilla Minus Zero is the First Japanese Production to be Filmed in IMAX

Some groundbreaking news for the day also came in the form of an IMAX announcement! That’s right, Godzilla Minus Zero is not only a highly anticipated sequel that has the world watching, but it also will break some strides for Japanese cinema. According to Toho and GKIDS, Godzilla Minus Zero was shot with high-definition digital cameras certified by IMAX, and optimized in sound and imagery unique to IMAX screens, the first for a Japanese film, and will look absolutely stunning for a riveting theater experience come November 6th, 2026! This historical milestone came alongside Yamazaki’s presentation that kicked off CInemaCon, in which attendees were given a chance to see a scene from the film, some behind-the-scenes material, and a short teaser that later premiered online. Yamazaki-san confirmed that the journey to make Minus Zero brought lots of reflecting, even adding that the film’s predecessor Minus One was almost canceled at one point, but was ultimately thrilled to showcase the film to the world for the very first time.

Bloodborne R-rated Animated Movie Announced by Sony, with Jacksepticeye as Producer.

Among Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group’s studded presentation at CinemaCon, one moment that certainly has stuck out notably was the announcement of a Bloodborne movie. The beloved FromSoftware game, applauded for its excellent gameplay, harrowing ambience, and lovecraftian creatures, has provided a horror experience next to none in the genre. 11 years after its release in 2015, fans will get to experience Hidetaka Miyazaki’s masterpiece again, this time on the big screen.

Per Sanford Panitch, president of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, the film will be “very true” to the gory spirit of Bloodborne. Seán McLoughlin, better known as Jacksepticeye, is a great candidate to be co-producing the film alongside PlayStation Productions and Lyrical Animation. Jacksepticeye is a beloved and devoted fan of Bloodborne who produced significant hours of content for millions of viewers, and is well aware of what a great Bloodborne movie should be.

Jacksepticeye expressed excitement for the project on an X post, stating “It’s a dream come true that I get to announce I’m producing a Bloodborne R-Rated Animated Movie with Sony. I can’t say much else about it yet but I will pour everything I have into this!”

This is one of the most exciting announcements that has come out of CinemaCon. Stay tuned for more coverage on this one!

Was Godzilla x Kong Supernova at CinemaCon?

Unfortunately, no it was not. During the Warner Bros. showcase on Tuesday evening, glimpses of Godzilla Evolved from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire were among many other movies that were featured in a highlight reel, but nothing about Grant Sputore’s upcoming flick was discussed. According to Gormaru Island, there may have been teases about the film, but in terms of actual news or a trailer, fans will have to wait. Our best guess is San Diego Comic-Con, but there has been no concrete info on when we can expect anything.

Takashi Yamazaki’s First English Language Film: Grandgear

Godzilla Minus Zero wasn’t the only flick by the Academy Award-winning director featured at the show. During Sony’s presentation (which also included Bloodborne), footage, plot details, and a release date for Yamazaki-san’s mysterious new project Grandgear was shown to attendees. Reportedly, the footage featured “giant armored warriors battling kaiju in a city,” with entertainment journalist Jeff Sneider describing it on X as “TRANSFORMERS with Kaiju, but with a CLOVERFIELD aesthetic.” Grandgear is directed by Takashi Yamazaki (Godzilla Minus One) and produced by J.J. Abrahms. Fans can expect to see this mysterious successor to Pacific Rim on February 18th, 2028.

Robert Eggers’ Creature Feature ‘Werewulf’

After the wild success of 2024’s Nosferatu, Robert Eggers surprised CinemaCon during the Universal/Focus Features showcase with the world’s first look at his next film, Werwulf. Not much is known about the film other than it will dive into Germanic werewolf lore and stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily Rose-Depp, Jack Morris, Jan Bijvoet, Ritchi Edwards and Bodhi Rae Breathnach. During the footage, audiences were given a look at some horrifying transformation sequences with a naked Taylor-Johnson, grotesque black-and-white imagery of corpses sprawled across the town, and other horrific images. The film’s logline was also confirmed, stating “In 13th-century England, a mysterious creature stalks a foggy countryside as local folklore becomes a terrifying reality for the villagers.” That’s about all we know about Eggers’ upcoming horror flick, but creature fans are excited nonetheless after his take on Count Orlok was a massive hit.
