A new trailer and poster for Godzilla Minus Zero has been unleashed online. In the new trailer to the the highly anticipated follow-up to the Academy Award-winning Godzilla Minus One, kaiju fans were treated with a tease of what many have suspected: A second monster is in the film. Those with ample ears will agree; we know exactly who made the iconic “bidibidibidi” cackle at the end of the trailer. We won’t spoil it for the individuals that want to be surprised, but there has certainly been a mix of various different opinions throughout the fandom online regarding this kaiju’s inclusion in the sequel.
New cast members have also been revealed in this trailer, most notably Masami Nagasawa, who joins the cast as Makoto Aoyama, a genius weather forecaster assigned to the Disaster Response Bureau. Further cast additions include Jun Kunimura as Dr. Ogata and Ko Maehara as Professor Murakami’s (Min Tanaka) assistant Akira Hagiwara. Additionally, Motosuke Iida is confirmed to reprise his role as Akio Itagaki, as well as newcomers Kenji Misuhashi, Eita Okuno, and Kai Inowaki.
Godzilla Minus Zero picks up in 1949, two years after the climactic events of Godzilla Minus One, and continues the story of the Shikishima family as they face an all-new calamity. An experience that demands the big screen, featuring more astounding effects choreography than its predecessor, Minus Zero will repotedly “crank up the terror while always keeping its post-WWII Japan narrative at human eye level.”
The film’s synopsis reminds us of the raised stakes and terror in the sequel:
“War reduced Japan to zero, and Godzilla plunged it into minus. Two years have passed since then, and the country has faced agonizing struggles to achieve recovery and finally reclaim its daily life.
Just as humanity managed to cling to a hard-won peace, a new threat strikes, crushing hope in an instant.
There is no third time. Everything ends here.”
Godzilla Minus Zero will make landfall in American cinemas starting November 6th after a Japanese premiere on November 3rd (Godzilla Day), with a World Premiere happening at the New York Film Festival this month on September 26th.
