INTRODUCING Zilla Zine! Check Out Issue #1: Monster Mementos

Zilla Zine is a short digital editorial for the kaiju and tokusatsu fandom, specifically the fem-identifying, though everyone is welcome to enjoy it. Intended to be an informal break in the endless scrolling, Zilla Zines are bite sized ideas and tangents about our monster sized heroes. Future issues will include topics on cosplay, female characters in tokusatsu, breakdowns of the buildings Godzilla has destroyed, and more!

The meaning behind Issue No.1 is two fold. First, to see the emotional connections that we have with our figures, and reframe them to see how one might think of vinyl figure collecting beyond an investment or clout. Second, to validate the informal and peripheral fans. It is important to be able to voraciously express your love for your hobby, but what’s also important is to include fans at all “levels” of fandom. Here’s to the casual collectors of monstrous mementos!

Alaena G, the author, has been a part of the tokusatsu fandom for as long as she can remember. She’s a regular at G-Fest, a Parade Director for their Costume Parade, and loves costuming and cosplay.
