Free Godzilla Event Raises Support for Local New Jersey Cat Rescue

Cats and Kaiju have a lot of things in common. They both enjoy curling into a ball to nap. They both enjoy fighting other creatures (sometimes rats, sometimes three-headed dragons). And most of all, they both enjoy destroying everything in their sight! As you can see, there is a deep connection between the two species. It’s even gone so far as Adam Wingard confirming Godzilla sleeping in the Coliseum was based on his cat, as well as Takashi Yamazaki confirming his Godzilla from Minus One was based on his own cats!

With this deep connection between the two, it only makes sense for Mutant Ideas and the Kaiju community to come together for these felines. On June 9th , 2026, the Godzilla vs. Petshop event will be taking place in Jersey City, New Jersey, in order to benefit the Furvana Cat Rescue. This event’s goal is to bring all Kaiju and cat lovers alike together in order to raise money for a good cause.

Organizer Chris Chris Marti commented on the idea of helping the local cats in his area, stating “Helping cats in my hometown has been something I wanted to do for years, and the timing could not have been more perfect for my imprint Mutant Ideas to connect with Furvana Cat Rescue.”

Featured at this FREE event with FREE popcorn will be a vendor market with collectibles, vinyl, comics, and more from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Vendors at the event include Mutant Ideas, 14aRecords, ENDNØ, and our friends over at Seismic Toys! There will also be donated artwork from artists such as Bill Couture, Gazbot, Swami Tsunami, and more in order to benefit this great cause. After the vendor market, there will be a screening of not one but two mystery Kaiju films! Not only is this going to be a fun community event, but benefitting the Furvana Cat Rescue from Bayonne, New Jersey is an incredible cause!

  • As a film student, Matthew has found great interest in the behind-the-scenes and making of all different kinds of films. He has always taken a great interest in practical effects, and there is no better example of those than kaiju and tokusatsu films. Along with this, Matthew hopes to one day be able to work on different film sets and make his own shows and films, using his experience and love of kaiju as an inspiration.
