Toho’s highly anticipated sequel to its Academy Award-winning romp has gained a few new additions to its cast. Although the only two actors officially confirmed at this time by Toho are the two leads from Godzilla Minus One (Ryûnosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe), there seems to be more rumblings of additional cast members permeating the internet. First, in an exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter’s Matt Raimond, there have been soft rumblings of a “famed Hollywood actor” joining the cast in a “key role,” although it is unclear to what extent a “famed Hollywood actor” is for the production of Godzilla Minus Zero.
That’s not all, though. According to the film’s listing on IMDb, we will see the return numerous characters from the first film, including fan-favorite actor Hidetaka Yoshioka as Kenji Noda, Miou Tanaka as the courageous Captain Tatsuo Hotta, Sakura Andô as Sumiko Ôta, Munetaka Aoki as Sôsaku Tachibana, Yuki Yamada as Shirô Mizushima and Sae Nagatani as Akiko. These cast additions aren’t too surprising, given that the sequel has been confirmed to take place three years after the events of Minus One. However, most conspicuously, is the addition of returning actor and director Michael Arias, who had a small role in the previous film as the voiceover for the American narration portion of the film and was also credited as a visual effects artist on the film. It’s unclear if he is portraying the same American soldier here, but it is rather interesting to see his return to the film as an on-camera talent. It’s here that I must clarify that IMDb can be edited by just about anybody on the internet, so please take this information with a grain of salt. At this time, Kaiju United cannot outright confirm these returning actors, but it would be wonderful to see them again on the big screen.
Finally, there is one more actor that has raised our eyebrows here at KU. At the bottom of the cast roster, there is a “West Wing” actor listed in the role of “U.S. Military.” No, it’s probably not the television series that we all watched in history class over the years. However… hear us out. There is an actor named Wes Wing in Japan that will appear in the upcoming kaiju film Kaiju: Island of Fire, so perhaps the listing is referring to him and it got lost in translation? At this time, details are murky and unclear, but it’s certainly looking like things are beginning to shape up for the cast of Godzilla Minus Zero. As soon as details come in officially from Toho, we will undoubtedly keep Kaiju United informed.
