A new Godzilla arcade machine is in development! At this year’s Anime Expo in Los Angeles, Taito Corporation showcased a new coin pusher machine titled Godzilla x Mechagodzilla: Marble Madness. In this new game, players have a chance to push coins off a ledge in order to win prizes like trading cards and redeemable tickets. During the gameplay, clips from the two “Kiryu Saga” Godzilla films – Godzilla x Mechagodzilla (2002) and Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. (2003) will be featured on screens above the main action. Based on our glimpse on-site at Anime Expo, the trading cards lean more towards characters from the overall Millennium era of Godzilla (1999-2004), featuring characters such as Godzilla (1999), Mothra (2003), Anguirus and Gigan from Godzilla: Final Wars (2004), and Megaguirus. There are also cards of Monster X, Godzilla and Mechagodzilla from the aforementioned “Kiryu Saga,” and curiously, one that features the poster for Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (2001).
It’s worth noting that this machine is still in the developmental phase, so it is likely pending licensor approval, meaning that anything can change before we see it in our local arcades. Kaiju United did get to speak with a Taito representative on site, and they confirmed that the game would have location tests coming before official release, but did not specify where and when. After these location tests and development has wrapped, Taito did confirm that the game would be coming soon to arcades across the United States, with possible locations including Round 1 and Dave & Busters.
While information is limited at this time, Kaiju United did get an up close look at the machine and its features. Check out our gallery of photos below! Stay tuned for more updates.
