Gamera Art Book by Hiroshi Kanatani Releasing October 9th

Renowned artist Hiroshi Kanatani has announced via his Facebook page his newest upcoming project, All Gamera Kaiju Sketch Gallery. Known for having the rare distinction of publishing officially licensed art from both Toho and Tsuburaya Productions simultaneously, Kanatani’s talents will be on full display for Gamera fans as this book is an art gallery of every rendition of Gamera.

Kantani is an experienced artist in the kaiju space who has worked on pieces such as “HIROSHI KANATANI ALL ULTRAMAN SKETCH” for the 60th anniversary of Ultraman and Coaraptor: Kaiju of the Wind. He has also collaborated with Godzilla comics artist Matt Frank on the series Dinosaur War IZENBORG. Kaiju United also has had the privilege of speaking with Kanatani in an interview last fall, where those curious can read about Kanatani’s clear passion and affinity for drawing kaiju. His energy, talent, and experience will serve well in his next gallery project centered around the beloved Gamera.

All Gamera Kaiju Sketch Gallery will be releasing October 9th in Japan, and is being published to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Gamera. Publiciation worldwide is planned. The art book is available for pre-order through Amazon Japan:

“S&T Office LLC (Headquarters: Arakawa-ku, Tokyo; Representative: Wataru Sadano) will publish “All Gamera Sketch Gallery” by Hiroshi Kanatani to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Gamera’s birth. This is an art book of illustrations of successive Gamera films drawn by Hiroshi Kanatani, who is popular worldwide for his superhuman and monster illustrations. It covers all 13 films, from the Showa Gamera to the Heisei Gamera and the anime film “GAMERA -Rebirth-“. Illustrators from around the world who support Hiroshi Kantani have also contributed to the art book. Director Shusuke Kaneko, who directed the Heisei Gamera trilogy, said, “Monster movies can amplify images and create new dreams,” and Yoshiro Uchida, the young actor who appeared in “Gamera, the Giant Monster,” also contributed a recommendation saying, “Thank you, ‘Gamera,’ I love you.” This book will be published worldwide, including in Europe, America, and China.
